“Our” Heron

Our-Heron-2

“Our” heron visited us this morning in Rockport! S/he is not very happy with us since our dock disappeared. S/he prefers an actual dock to a post or the seawall, and our neighbor has dock remnants that suffice. But today s/he’s out hunting in our yard again, on the seawall. Looks a little cold… and forgot to comb its hair this morning…

Big Tree

We visited Goose Island State Park and the famous Big Tree. I must say it was a rather sad visit… It is said to be 1000 years old, but clearly the tree is not well and I think has declined since the last time we went there when I don’t remember thinking it looked ill. It doesn’t appear to have the normal amount of foliage. Over the years many branches have been cut off, and you can see the previously long branch on the left has been recently cut. So visit the Big Tree while you stlil can!

Sailboats in Rockport Harbor

Sailboats in Rockport Harbor

Sailboats in Rockport Harbor. I am having so much fun with my new camera in the dark! Last night I went out with my fastest lens — a 40mm f1.7 lens — and captured this. I think I like harbors at night because they are “simpler” than harbors in the daytime when you can see everything near and far…

The reason this camera appeals to me so much is the image stabilization is so much improved over other cameras that I can take photos hand-held, without a tripod, that I was never able to do before without blur. This has opened up a whole new world of wandering around at night with my camera…
